Last night, I  sent an email to a monk in the religious organization I’ve been a part of since I was a little girl. The response was glorious. Names/emails are obscured to protect my privacy.

This is someone that gave up everything to become a monk, who spent years of his life studying the scriptures. He gives talks on the Bhagvad Gita every day. So tell me, social justice warriors. Tell me how you know more than a Hindu swami. I’m waiting.

YOU educate yourself.

So the words of one man who is a religious figure goes above all the accounts of Desi women who say that the bindi is not only a religious figure but a cultural one and wearing it when you are not part of that culture without permission is cultural appropriation?
